Predators & Prey

A "predator" is an animal which feeds on other animals. It doesn't mean it's a bad animal. It's just the way they are. After all, don't a lot of people feed on other animals?

The animals which are eaten are called "prey". Usually these kinds of animals feed on plant life, but sometimes small predators become prey when they are eaten by bigger predators.

Think about the animals listed below.
Are they predators, or are they prey?
Do they usually eat other animals, or do they get eaten?
Make two lists.  On one of the lists put all the Predators. On the other list put the animals that are Prey.

Cougar           Goat           Bobcat           Frog            Buffalo            Squirrel

Mouse           Pika             Coyote           Hawk           Humans            Butterfly

Snake           Vole             Beaver           Elk               Porcupine         Bee

Moose           Bear            Gopher           Deer            Chipmunk          Rabbit

                              Sheep              Wolf               Woodchuck

Do you know which of these animals can be "prey" as well as "predators"?
