The Walkin’ Jim Stoltz “Kid for the Wild” Scholarship is now accepting applications for its 2025 fall awards! This scholarship honors the legacy of Walkin’ Jim Stoltz, a singer-songwriter, poet, painter, and long-distance hiker whose passion for the natural world inspired people of all ages across the country.
What Is It?
The Kid for the Wild Scholarship supports youth ages 12–18 in pursuing outdoor experiences that foster a deep connection with nature. Whether it’s a wilderness adventure, environmental science program, or leadership camp, this scholarship helps young people explore, grow, and become stewards of the Earth.
What’s Offered?
- Two scholarships are awarded each cycle
- Up to $800 per recipient
- Covers camps, trips, or travel focused on nature, science, or outdoor leadership
- Recipients are asked to give a short presentation about their experience to their school, library, or community
Application Deadlines
Fall Deadline: September 30, 2025
Who Should Apply?
Youth ages 12–18 who:
- Are passionate about the outdoors
- Can clearly express how this opportunity will impact their life
- Are excited to share their experience with others
- Have a dream outdoor program or adventure in mind

Applicants must complete the online form and include:
- Personal and contact information
- Details about the program they wish to attend (dates, cost, etc.)
- A short essay describing a meaningful outdoor experience and how it shaped their environmental values
